Húsasmiðjan was one of the companies that the EFI acquired after purchasing the holding company Vestia from Landsbankinn in August 2010. The company‘s operations was struggling and it was sold to the Danish building company Bygma Gruppen in December 2011, following an open sales process. Shortly before the sale was finalized, there was an announcement regarding a reassessment of taxes on Húsasmiðjan, with a possible fine from the Icelandic Competition Authority; both due to events that had taken place before the EFI acquired the company. This led to a revaluation and lowering of the EFI‘s purchasing price. The sales value was enough to settle the company‘s debts and the Competition Authority‘s fine.
